Promotion to Professor Just 1.5 Years After Appointment as Associate Professor
Former SK hynix Executive Vice President Conducts Strategic Semiconductor Research
Dong-A University (President Lee Haewoo) announced on the 5th that Professor Shim Daeyong from the Department of Electronic Engineering, a former Vice President at SK Hynix, has received a special promotion.
Professor Shim was specially promoted to full professor just a year and a half after being appointed as an associate professor through Dong-A University's 'Industry-Academia Tenure Track Faculty' system, the first of its kind in the country.
Based on his experience as Vice President in charge of Automotive Business overseeing SK Hynix's automotive semiconductor commercialization and as a professional professor at SKHU (SK Hynix University), Professor Shim is currently leading joint research and development of power semiconductors at Dong-A University. He is also promoting projects for the advancement of power semiconductors and the training of highly skilled semiconductor professionals.
He was specially promoted in recognition of his contributions to the development of industry-academia cooperation, including his current role as Director of the Future Technology Research Institute at Dong-A University's Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation.
He said, "I am grateful to the university and the region, and I feel a great sense of responsibility. I hope Dong-A University will continue to excel in its strongest fields as a top private university and make continuous progress in areas such as power semiconductors, hydrogen energy, and human care. With the university being selected as a Glocal University by the government, I will do my best to ensure the revenue-generating industry-academia cooperation foundation plays a key role and to contribute, even in a small way, to Busan's development as a future-oriented residential city."
Dong-A University has drawn attention by introducing the 'Industry-Academia Tenure Track Faculty' system as part of its 'university innovation policy' to become an industry-academia cooperation-centered university and to select professors based on industrial capabilities rather than formal qualifications. Instead of requiring a doctoral degree and academic papers, the university emphasizes industry experience and achievements in industry-academia cooperation as criteria for faculty recruitment, reappointment, and promotion.
