Generation 10-30 Leads ETF Investment Share... Focused Buying on S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100

Shinhan Investment Corp. Releases ETF Customer Analysis for This Year
Highest ETF Investment Proportion Among Ages 10-30
Most Purchased ETFs: S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100

Generation 10-30 Leads ETF Investment Share... Focused Buying on S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100

It was found that people in their 10s to 30s have a higher proportion of investment in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) than in stocks. They were found to have purchased the U.S. Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 ETF and the U.S. Nasdaq 100 ETF the most.

Shinhan Investment Corp. announced the results of the "2024 Stock Investment Customers' ETF Investment Pattern Analysis" on the 5th.

According to the recent five-year ETF analysis by Shinhan Investment Corp.'s Data Marketing Department, the main age group preferring ETF investment was found to be people in their 10s to 30s. The proportion of ETF-holding customers was highest among those in their 30s at 27.5%. In terms of asset size, those in their 40s to 50s, corresponding to the asset maturity stage, accounted for 52.3% of the total ETF investment assets.

The proportion of ETF holdings relative to stock assets is high among people in their 10s to 30s. Looking at the investment amount proportion by age group, teenagers accounted for 14.2%, people in their 20s 15.6%, 30s 11.6%, 40s 9.1%, 50s 5.9%, and those 60 and older 4.1%, confirming that young customers in their 10s to 30s tend to choose ETFs as an efficient investment tool.

Young customers in their 10s to 30s seem to prefer ETF investment as it provides opportunities to access various assets with relatively small capital and is a simple and efficient investment method. For these reasons, the proportion of ETF investment among investors in their 10s to 30s has been gradually increasing every year.

Also, 87.2% of customers who made their first ETF transaction also traded stocks simultaneously, and there was a marked tendency to invest in U.S. market indices rather than domestic market indices.

The most purchased ETFs among people in their 10s to 30s were those tracking the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 indices. Conversely, for those in their 50s to 60s, sector ETFs such as electric vehicles, Philadelphia Semiconductor, and Tech TOP10 were among the top purchases. This suggests that people in their 10s to 30s chose ETF investment as a way to understand market trends and develop a sense of the market in the early stages of investing.

Meanwhile, Shinhan Investment Corp. revamped the "ETF Exclusive" home screen on the ShinhanSOL Securities app in June, providing dedicated information areas such as ETF rankings (prices, dividends, featured stocks) and investment content for both domestic and U.S. markets.

Along with this, they plan to continuously provide investment information that can create synergy in asset management by analyzing the investment purposes and psychology of various customer groups, such as ETF portfolios mainly invested in by peers in their 10s to 30s and dividend investments mainly done by those in their 50s to 60s.
