The Korea Communications Commission has warned users to be cautious ahead of the launch of Apple's iPhone 16, stating that "there may be damages caused by fraudulent sales of mobile phones through false, exaggerated, or deceptive advertising."

So-called 'Seongjijeom' (sanctuary stores) are misleading consumers by claiming that the latest smartphones can be purchased cheaply through sales channels such as online cafes, blogs, and bands. In reality, most cases involve explaining discounts offered by carriers, such as selective contract discounts and credit card partnership discounts, as if they are discounts provided by retail stores.

To prevent damage, if an unreasonably low purchase price is offered, it is necessary to carefully check the discount conditions and remaining installment payments, and request additional explanations for any unclear parts.

Kim Taegyu, Acting Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, stated, "We urge carriers to refrain from illegal subsidies to stabilize the market, and we will monitor whether prior consent notices are posted, focusing on retail stores and online sales points that receive complaints." He added, "We will strengthen on-site inspections to prevent user damages caused by deceptive sales."
