Jeon Seong-su, the mayor of Seocho District, is well known as a mayor with a very warm heart.
After graduating from Seoul National University Law School and passing the civil service exam, he held key positions such as General Affairs Director and Administration Director at Seoul City. During President Lee Myung-bak's administration, he served as a senior administrative officer at the Blue House. He also has a distinguished career as a government official, having served as spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Deputy Mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City, and Consul General in Thailand.
This former mayor has recently attracted attention for his exceptional approach toward Seocho District office employees.
Starting from the 3rd, Seocho District is receiving departmental work reports for the next year's budget planning, attended by former Mayor Jeon and Deputy Mayor Kim Tae-myeong.
However, although former Mayor Jeon could have started receiving reports on Monday the 2nd, he began on Tuesday the 3rd. Regarding this, a district official said, “The mayor said that if he started receiving reports on Monday, he would have to work on Saturday and Sunday,” and added, “So he decided to start on the 3rd.”
This clearly shows how much consideration former Mayor Jeon has for his employees.
Additionally, at the expanded executive meeting on the 3rd, former Mayor Jeon personally urged, “Please take plenty of leave so that employees can fully rest during the Chuseok holiday.” This is interpreted as a gesture encouraging employees to also take leave on the 19th and 20th, after the holiday ends.
Moreover, it is known that whenever various events hosted by the district office conclude, former Mayor Jeon makes a point of shaking hands even with the junior staff and saying, “Thank you for your hard work, Officer ○○.”
In particular, former Mayor Jeon often shows special affection toward Deputy Mayor Kim Tae-myeong. He praised Kim for personally visiting the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Seoul City to resolve nearly all issues related to the construction of the Yangjae Station transfer center on the GTX-C line, which passes through the district. He said the day when Seocho District will be benchmarked by the world is not far off.
In this way, former Mayor Jeon demonstrates complete trust in Deputy Mayor Kim and frequently urges everyone to work together under Kim’s leadership.
Such considerate behavior toward others by former Mayor Jeon has been consistent since he first started his public service career. An acquaintance who has known him for a long time said, “Former Mayor Jeon is the same now as he was 30 years ago.”
Seocho District office employees who have directly experienced former Mayor Jeon’s warm humanity reportedly hold deep respect for him and do their best in their assigned duties. One district official boasted, “I have never seen a mayor with such character before,” and added, “The working atmosphere in the district office is very good.”
Given the positive working environment within Seocho District Office, it seems natural that good results follow.
