YouTube Channel on US History 'TimeGhost'
Weekly News Series Covering Nearly 160 Weeks of War
"A Forgotten War"... Even Local Korean Descendants Express Gratitude
From North Korea's surprise invasion on June 25, 1950, to the armistice on July 27, 1953, a total of 3 years, 1 month, and 2 days. American YouTubers who have comprehensively recreated all the progress and events of the Korean War that took place over approximately 160 weeks in the form of "live news" are gaining attention.
The YouTube channel in question is called "TimeGhost," which mainly produces videos related to historical events. Before the Korean War, they created and serialized videos covering the six years of World War II.

TimeGhost is a YouTube channel led by Indy Neidell, a Swedish-American historian, YouTuber, and documentary producer. They deliver historical events vividly as if they were truly going back in time to broadcast live, following the concept of a mid-20th century radio news channel, attracting attention from overseas netizens. It is a kind of "mockumentary (fake documentary)."
Neidell, who hosts the show, dresses like an actual 1950s American news anchor and presents the news in a room decorated like a broadcast studio. Each news episode is about 30 minutes long and summarizes the events of the week. Starting from June 25, 1950, when the Korean War officially began, videos covering up to September 3 of the same year (local time) have been uploaded.

As a YouTube channel run by historians, the content covered is extensive. They meticulously draw the actual invasion routes and operations of North Korea and the combat situations between North Korean and South Korean forces on maps. They also detail what the U.S. military, United Nations (UN) forces, and politicians from various countries experienced and the choices they made. The lives of Koreans who had to endure horrific refugee conditions ravaged by the war are also introduced.
TimeGhost's project is especially meaningful not only to English-speaking netizens who mainly watch the videos but also to domestic viewers. In fact, the Korean War is an event that has not received much attention from the American public or even the academic community. For this reason, the Korean War is also known as the "Forgotten War."
The passion of TimeGhost, which painstakingly reconstructs the Korean War situation in as much detail as possible by researching official records and actual news articles from the time, is why netizens appreciate them. One netizen, who identified themselves as Korean-American, commented, "I cannot express enough gratitude for covering the most horrific period my hometown experienced," adding, "This is an excellent history lesson about a neglected part of history. I sincerely thank you once again."
Another netizen shared their feelings, saying, "My grandfather was conscripted by the North Korean army after the division of Korea, surrendered after the invasion, and then fought against the North Korean army as part of the South Korean forces. I heard he settled in South Korea after the war and passed away when I was young. Thank you for informing us about the chaos that happened in our distant homeland."
