Incheon Yeonsu-gu Seonhak-dong Designated as 'Quarantine Safety Zone'... Expected to Revitalize Local Businesses

Yeonsu-gu, Incheon announced on the 4th that it has designated the Seonhak-dong Food Culture Street as a 'Quarantine Safe Street' where visitors can feel safe from infectious diseases, and held a signboard unveiling ceremony. This is the first time a quarantine safe street has been designated in Incheon.

The district has been promoting a 'region-customized Word One quarantine project' with residents to prevent infectious diseases and revitalize local commercial districts, targeting areas densely populated with stores.

In the first half of this year, the district formed a merchant association quarantine team consisting of 58 members across 14 groups in 6 zones by accepting applications from merchant associations by region, and has been conducting intensive quarantine activities in areas densely populated with stores. Recently, due to the early onset of high temperatures causing an explosive increase in mosquito populations, a public-private network was established and continuous quarantine activities were carried out to respond to infectious diseases caused by sanitary pests such as malaria during the summer.

As a result, the area around Haknarae-ro 6, 118beon-gil in Yeonsu-gu, where the merchant association quarantine team has been very active, was designated as the first quarantine safe street, and a signboard unveiling ceremony was held on the 2nd. The district plans to continue expanding quarantine safe streets in commercial areas where merchant organizations are formed.

In addition to Seonhak-dong, the district operates merchant association quarantine teams in five other zones and is putting all efforts into regular mosquito larva control and disinfection until next month to create safe shopping districts.

Besides the newly designated Seonhak-dong Food Culture Street, Yeonsu-gu also operates separate commercial quarantine teams in Yeonsu 1-dong 1st Complex, Cheonghak-dong, Yeonsu-dong, Songdo Canal Walk, and Osong Dosong.

Lee Jae-ho, Mayor of Yeonsu-gu, said, "I thank the merchant association quarantine team for their hard work in quarantine activities to prevent infectious diseases and protect residents' health amid the heatwave," adding, "I hope the designation of the quarantine safe street will serve as an opportunity to revitalize the local commercial district, and we will continue to do our best to prevent infectious diseases and create a pleasant urban environment."
