Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will visit China from the 8th to the 11th. China, which is in a trade dispute with the European Union (EU), continues efforts to secure 'allies' by engaging individually with some EU member countries.
On the 3rd, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated in a briefing, "At the invitation of Premier Li Qiang, Prime Minister Sanchez will make an official visit to China from the 8th to the 11th."
He added, "During the visit, President Xi Jinping will meet with Prime Minister Sanchez, and Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, will also hold separate meetings," noting that "exchanges of views on bilateral relations and shared interests will take place." During the visit, events such as the China-Spain Forum, the Bilateral Business Advisory Council meeting, and a business forum will also be held.
Spokesperson Mao said, "China and Spain have maintained traditional friendship as comprehensive strategic partners for half a century since establishing diplomatic relations, deepening mutually beneficial openness and cooperation," and added, "China will use Prime Minister Sanchez's visit as an opportunity to promote new progress in bilateral relations, deepen mutual trust through high-level exchanges, and respond to global challenges through high-quality cooperation."
Previously, China and the EU had a trade dispute over electric vehicles and other issues, but China has been engaging individually with some EU member countries.
President Xi also expressed willingness to cooperate in strategic industries such as electric vehicles and artificial intelligence (AI) to Giorgia Meloni, Italian Prime Minister, who visited China in July. Prime Minister Meloni responded by saying, "The international situation is undergoing serious upheaval, and the role of a major power like China is irreplaceable," pledging to pursue cooperation.
