Handonghun "Gumi, the Heart of South Korea's Semiconductor Industry"

"Semiconductor Industry Sets Upward Trajectory for South Korea"
Emphasis on Semiconductor Special Act, Rapid Permits, and Other Policies

Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, visited the semiconductor industry site in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, to listen to difficulties and explore support measures. He also emphasized the People Power Party's policies for fostering the semiconductor industry.

On the 3rd, Han visited the Gumi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and said, "Gumi is not only the heart of conservatism in the Republic of Korea but also the heart of the Korean semiconductor industry, and the People Power Party is determined to make it so." He added, "There have been many attempts, and there are various stories such as talent not coming. However, these issues can be resolved through your achievements, capabilities, and public awareness. In that regard, it has been designated as a semiconductor special zone."

Furthermore, Han said, "Whether we succeed or fail in the semiconductor industry will determine the upward trajectory of the Republic of Korea," and added, "Our party is pushing the Semiconductor Special Act as a core policy topic and is striving to establish a special committee to strengthen semiconductor industry competitiveness, as well as to prepare legal grounds such as a fast-track for rapid permits and approvals."

Afterwards, Han visited Wonik QnC, a semiconductor materials and components company located in the Gumi National Industrial Complex, and said, "I and the People Power Party are confident that the semiconductor industry will make the Republic of Korea prosperous," adding, "Therefore, we are prioritizing the Semiconductor Special Act as a party resolution." He emphasized, "What political forces would not want to make Korea prosperous? The day before yesterday, I told Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, not to politicize semiconductors, and he immediately agreed to work well together without hesitation."

Han also asked about corporate opinions on Gumi’s designation as a national advanced strategic industry specialized cluster in the semiconductor field, as well as issues related to talent and energy supply. In response, Baek Hong-ju, CEO of Wonik QnC, requested government support for facilities to test prototypes and measures to improve living conditions for employees.

Assemblyman Ko Dong-jin, a former president of Samsung Electronics who accompanied the visit, said, "Because the semiconductor cluster in Yongin is busy and large, it is true that we have not paid as much attention to Gumi," and added, "We will also comprehensively address issues such as the international school problem and water and power supply." The People Power Party’s Energy Special Committee and AI & Semiconductor Special Committee held a joint meeting on June 18 at the SK Hynix semiconductor industrial complex construction site in Yongin. Although both are semiconductor specialized clusters, the later visit to the Gumi cluster is interpreted as a sign that more attention will be paid to the Gumi cluster in the future.
