In July, a flood of criticism over Byun Woo-seok's 'excessive security'
Incheon Airport establishes new detailed manual
"Airport Police Unit to control and command on-site"
In response to the controversy over actor Byeon Woo-seok's excessive security, Incheon International Airport has presented a manual for handling celebrities' arrivals and departures.
On the 3rd, Jeon Yong-gi (Gyeonggi Hwaseong Jeong), a member of the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee from the Democratic Party, received a 'Recurrence Prevention Plan for Excessive Security of Celebrities at the Airport' submitted by Incheon International Airport Corporation. According to the plan, the corporation plans to establish and implement a 'Detailed Response Manual for Celebrity Arrivals and Departures' within this month.
In the plan, the corporation identified 'insufficient information sharing leading to inadequate on-site response' and 'lack of control over private security companies' as causes of the excessive security controversy. Even when private security companies conduct security activities inside the airport, they do not share information with the airport authorities, and since the police are responsible for managing these companies, it is difficult for the corporation to directly impose sanctions.
The newly prepared manual states that when 300 to 500 people gather due to celebrity arrivals or departures, the Airport Police Unit will control the scene and direct order maintenance. When more than 500 people gather, the Airport Police Unit will actively secure passenger safety and strengthen on-site control.
Additionally, the corporation has established a policy to restrain private security companies on-site if they behave inappropriately and report them to the Airport Police Unit. In cases of serious illegal acts such as facility damage, the corporation will actively file complaints and prosecutions. Furthermore, on July 29, the corporation sent a cooperation request letter to entertainment agencies asking for cooperation in establishing a 'quiet departure culture,' including refraining from flaunting fame due to prior leakage of arrival and departure information and excessive PPL (product placement) filming.
Regarding this, Assemblyman Jeon said, "Incheon International Airport Corporation has the obligation to maintain order within the airport and protect users," adding, "Since the responsibility for safety within the airport lies with the corporation, active and proactive preventive measures are necessary."
