"Forum's First Large-Scale Private Event"
The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) is holding the first private event of the National Assembly research group 'Bipartisan Forum for Advanced Diplomacy.' This is to address the agenda of denuclearization, peace, and unification of the Korean Peninsula amid rapidly changing international circumstances.
On the 2nd, AMCHAM announced that it held a government and international affairs subcommittee discussion at the Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul.
AMCHAM invited members of the National Assembly research group 'Bipartisan Forum for Advanced Diplomacy,' which was launched last month, to the event co-hosted with Codit, a corporate legal, regulatory, and policy monitoring service company. An AMCHAM official said, "The event is significant as it is the forum's first official large-scale private event."
Assemblyman Wi Seong-rak of the Democratic Party of Korea serves as the forum's representative member. Assemblyman Wi previously served as the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Korean Peninsula Peace Negotiation Division and chief representative for the Six-Party Talks, as well as ambassador to Russia.
Participants in the discussion shared opinions on the outlook for Korea-US relations and future cooperation plans ahead of the US presidential election.
James Kim, Chairman and CEO of AMCHAM, said, "We are honored to be the first meeting partner since the forum's launch," adding, "AMCHAM is working closely with various government stakeholders to help Korea establish itself as a leading business hub in the Asia-Pacific region."
Assemblyman Wi gave a keynote speech on the topic "The US Presidential Election and Korea-US Relations ? Future Directions and Actions" at the discussion. During the panel discussion, Assemblymen Ahn Cheol-soo, Choi Hyung-doo, and In Yo-han of the People Power Party, as well as Wi Seong-rak and Cha Ji-ho of the Democratic Party, discussed topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), healthcare, carbon neutrality, and cybersecurity.
