The second annual '2024 Gangbuk Baekmaek Festival' will be held on the 6th and 7th of this year. Provided by Gangbuk-gu.
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced on the 2nd that the '2024 Gangbuk Baekmaek Festival' will be held on the 6th and 7th from 4 PM to 9 PM at Suyu-dong Baeknyeon Market and the surrounding area of Uicheon Stream to promote traditional market food and local attractions.
The Baekmaek Festival signifies a festival where visitors can enjoy 'one hundred' kinds of market food and various craft 'maek'ju (beer). The first Gangbuk Baekmaek Festival last year was a great success, attracting over 43,000 visitors over two days and achieving sales of 280 million KRW.
The '2024 Gangbuk Baekmaek Festival' carries the subtitle 'Baekmaek Village, In Search of Lost Taste,' and plans to create a space with an atmosphere as if visitors have accidentally stopped by a rural village abroad (village) during their travels, experiencing a festival full of delicious beer and food.
The entrance of Baeknyeon Market, the starting point of the event venue, will be themed as a 'bus stop,' the arrival and departure place of Baekmaek Village, where EDM performances by club DJs will be held every evening on a bus-shaped stage.
From the entrance of Baeknyeon Market to the end of the market arcade, a 'Main Square' will be set up where visitors can taste craft beer breweries and various market side dishes. This year, 12 famous domestic and international breweries will participate in the Baekmaek Festival, and a comprehensive information center will offer recommendations for food and beer according to visitors' preferences.
Beyond the Main Square street, the 'Main Street' leading to Uicheon Stream will unfold, where actors dressed as various characters such as newspaper boys and village sheriffs will be stationed throughout, providing visitors with unique enjoyment.
The Uicheon waterfront space will be decorated with a spacious artificial turf seating area for 300 people, a large stage for invited singers' performances called the 'Music Pub,' and a busking stage called 'Village Inn.'
At the Uicheon riverside event venues such as the 'Music Pub' and 'Village Inn,' various craft beers will be sold alongside popular foods from local traditional markets including Suyu Traditional Market, Suyu Jeontong Market, Jangmiwon Alley Market, Ui Alley Market, Solsaem Market, and Eojin Alley Market.
The number of participating market stores has significantly increased from 44 last year to 61 this year, and through collaboration with professional chefs, about 183 types of food priced under 10,000 KRW with excellent taste will be offered.
The 'Gangbuk Baekmaek Festival' was planned in cooperation with traditional market merchants from the planning stage to compose festival content and food. On the 'Music Pub' stage by Uicheon Stream, performances by singer Lim Jeong-hee on the 6th and Min Kyung-hoon on the 7th will take place.
The district office plans to deploy safety management personnel throughout the event venue and operate a smart disaster cooperation response system to prevent mass crowd accidents. Additionally, a reusable container return zone will be operated to create a regional festival atmosphere free of disposable products.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee said, “We are preparing the Gangbuk Baekmaek Festival to be an event that everyone from the younger generation to family visitors can enjoy with various foods, diverse themed spaces, and performances,” adding, “We hope many people will participate and enjoy together so that Baekmaek Festival can establish itself as a representative festival of Gangbuk-gu.”
