Kim Dae-jung, Superintendent of Education for Jeonnam, expressed his commitment to strengthening customized education for students with migration backgrounds during a meeting with migrant parents at the Jeonnam National University Yeosu Campus Global Education Center's 'Public Transportation (敎通)' field program on the 31st of last month.
This meeting was held to help students with migration backgrounds build confidence and improve communication skills so they can engage in school life and academics, as well as to assist them in establishing a proper self-identity.

The Provincial Office of Education is focusing on tailored Korean language education through ▲a regional hub Korean language preparatory course consignment education program ▲a visiting Korean language education support program ▲support for bilingual books and digital teaching materials ▲operation of bilingual study rooms ▲and literacy and numeracy programs.
They also operate a "Multilingual Translation Service for Migrant Background Families" that provides customized educational information to utilize multicultural education programs. This service automatically translates school notices, home communications, and various educational materials into 16 supported languages.
According to the characteristics and growth stages of students with migration backgrounds, the office plans to focus on ▲bridge courses for school level transitions ▲multicultural education policy schools ▲multicultural education learning and enrichment programs (entry, adaptation, growth types) ▲and improving the home learning environment for multicultural students.
The (tentatively named) Jeonnam Glocal Vocational High School, scheduled to open in March 2028, will provide specialized vocational education for students with migration backgrounds, mid-entry students, and international students, supporting employment in local industries and regional settlement. Additionally, to establish a teacher appointment system suited to local conditions, a "re-examination for multicultural individuals" will be newly introduced and operated for the first time nationwide in the 2025 academic year for elementary teacher appointments at the regional level.
Superintendent Kim Dae-jung said, "Many students with migration backgrounds in Jeonnam can become excellent educational assets for the region," adding, "We will actively support them to grow into glocal talents who go from the region to the world by leveraging their linguistic and cultural strengths."
