Hwasun-gun's representative tourist destination, Namsan Park, has been completely transformed.

On the 1st, Hwasun-gun announced that it has completed the landscaping construction of Namsan Park, newly renovated as a space for culture, leisure, and relaxation for its residents.

The Namsan Park development project is a remodeling initiative prioritized by the county to create a space where all residents can comfortably rest and heal anytime, regardless of season or time of day.

Since January this year, Hwasun-gun has invested 3 billion KRW from the Korea Forest Service’s Urban Heat Island Mitigation public project funds to undertake the remodeling. Tall trees were transplanted around the walking trails and grassy hills to create cool shaded forests with greenery. Themed spaces were established, including a hydrangea garden representing summer, a water garden, an autumn grass garden, and a winter birch tree garden.

Starting with magnolias blooming in March, Namsan Park is adorned with western rose of Sharon and spiraea in April and May, and with Japanese snowbell and firebush in May and June, coloring the park in vibrant hues. The park reaches its peak scenery when hydrangeas bloom fully in June and July. From September, the park is filled with the fragrance of silver magnolia and eastern magnolia flowers, offering a variety of sights.

Upon entering Namsan Park, the hydrangea garden is the first to catch the eye. Covering about 5,000 square meters, the garden is planted with approximately 20,000 hydrangea plants of 15 varieties, including tree hydrangea, mountain hydrangea, and Annabelle hydrangea, creating a magnificent scene resembling waves of hydrangea flowers flowing down.

After enjoying the summer romance in the hydrangea garden, visitors enter the water garden filled with purple and pink Buddleia flowers. The water garden, where a charming stream flows among the purple-leaf smoke trees, is a newly created facility with a wall fountain and mist fountain, designed to provide a cool resting place for residents in Namsan Park, which previously lacked shade and relief from the heat.

The cool and refreshing sounds of the water garden, the strawberry-scented katsura trees, and the sweet fragrance of Buddleia that attracts butterflies are expected to make Namsan Park the ultimate healing space for those weary of daily life.

▲ Barefoot walking course and picnic area add to the attractions

Additionally, a barefoot walking course connecting the hydrangea garden and the Zelkova tree grove, a healing picnic area beneath the grassy hill, a shaded garden planted with 15 species including cornelian cherry, lilyturf, and hosta to create a forest-like atmosphere, the western rose of Sharon path, the Japanese snowbell and magnolia flower paths, and areas featuring pink muhly and pampas grass blending with autumn foliage have been created throughout the park, offering charming spaces everywhere.

Goo Bok-gyu, the mayor of Hwasun-gun, said, “We have developed Namsan Park as a forest that can be enjoyed by future generations, looking ahead 100 years,” and added, “We will nurture it into a beautiful park representing the nation and contribute to the local economy.”
