This Weekend's Heatwave Continues... Daytime Temperatures Rise Around 33 Degrees

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, heatwave warnings are in effect for most regions nationwide except for Gangwon Yeongdong, parts of Gangwon Yeongseo, and eastern Gyeongbuk, with daytime highs reaching between 28 and 35 degrees Celsius, continuing the heat.

The forecasted daytime highs for major cities on this day are 33 degrees in Seoul and Daejeon, 32 degrees in Chuncheon, Gwangju, and Jeju, and 33 degrees in Daegu. However, due to the inflow of easterly winds, Gangwon Yeongdong and the eastern coastal areas of Gyeongsang will have daytime highs below 30 degrees Celsius.

Although the air in the morning and evening has become somewhat cooler, the prolonged heatwave greatly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses. Therefore, the Korea Meteorological Administration urges the elderly, children, and others to refrain from outdoor activities. To prevent heat-related illnesses, it is important to stay well hydrated and take adequate rest.

Under the influence of high pressure, most of the country will be mostly clear, but Gangwon Yeongdong and the Gyeongsang region will occasionally have more clouds. In the afternoon, easterly winds will bring occasional rain of around 5mm to parts of Gangwon Yeongdong, and light drizzle less than 0.1mm will fall on the northern eastern coast of Gyeongbuk. At night, some areas in the inland regions of Gangwon and Gyeongbuk may experience drizzle less than 0.1mm.

Until the morning of this day, strong winds and waves up to 2.5 meters are expected in the southern offshore waters of the South Sea of the East Sea, so vessels engaged in navigation or fishing should exercise caution.

Meanwhile, the heat will continue throughout the weekend, with the highest apparent temperatures rising to around 33 degrees Celsius in the southern regions on Sunday and mainly in the Gyeongsang region the day after.

The minimum morning temperature on Sunday, the 1st, is forecast to be between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs ranging from 29 to 34 degrees Celsius.
