Blinds Not Lowered at Pyeongchang Resort in Gangwon-do

A shocking incident occurred at a resort located in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do. The men's sauna room was exposed so that it was clearly visible from outside. A simple mistake by the resort in not lowering the blinds caused a huge stir.

A resort guest, Mr. A, raised the issue through Yonhap News on the 31st. Around 8:04 PM on the 15th, while walking along the trail behind the building, Mr. A witnessed the men's sauna room on the second floor of the building being exposed. The guests inside were naked and using the sauna, and their figures were clearly visible to the naked eye from outside.

Mr. A, concerned about the impact on the resort’s business and the possibility of secondary victims among those exposed, judged that “action is necessary” and attempted to contact the resort. The resort responded, “There are blinds inside, but it seems they were not lowered at that time,” and added, “Currently, we operate until 6 PM and will be more careful going forward.”

Judging that the resort did not fully recognize the seriousness of the problem, Mr. A expressed concern to the media that the same mistake could happen again at any time. When the media investigated, the resort said, “We don’t know why the blinds were not lowered that day, but we are very embarrassed,” and explained, “It was a simple mistake, but we will take definite measures to ensure this never happens again.”

Previously, in 2021, a similar incident occurred at a 5-star hotel in Seogwipo, Jeju, where the interior of the women’s sauna was clearly visible from outside. At that time, the hotel stated, “The new building’s sauna is equipped with glass blocking coating and blinds, which are operated flexibly depending on weather conditions and time of day. Due to an operational mistake, some areas inside the sauna had blinds that were not lowered, which was identified as a deficiency, and we immediately changed to always keeping the blinds lowered during operation.”
