Operation of 10 Low-Floor Cleaning Vehicles and 1 Guard Vehicle
After a recent tragic incident in Cheonan, Chungnam, where a sanitation worker was killed by a drunk driver, the Cheonan city government has announced follow-up measures to operate low-floor garbage trucks and guard vehicles to prevent such accidents.
On the 30th, Cheonan city stated that it has introduced 10 low-floor garbage trucks and 1 guard vehicle, and is currently operating them with safety warning lights installed on the cleaning vehicles.
The low-floor garbage trucks are equipped with a separate space between the driver's seat and the waste loading compartment, allowing workers to ride safely and making waste collection more convenient.
Additionally, to ensure safety when collecting household waste in high-risk traffic areas, the city is operating guard vehicles to induce lane changes and has installed safety warning lights on cleaning vehicles to enhance visibility for drivers.
The city plans to introduce low-floor cleaning vehicles tailored to local characteristics such as narrow alleys, expand the operation of guard vehicles, and increase the installation of safety warning lights on nighttime collection vehicles.
A city official said, "We will implement various policies to create a safe working environment for sanitation workers."
Meanwhile, at around 12:53 a.m. on the 7th, a man in his 20s, refusing a police breathalyzer test, fled and crashed into a garbage collection vehicle that was in operation. Due to the accident, a sanitation worker in his 30s was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but later died.
