The Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President: Kim Youngdo) held a workshop from the 23rd to the 24th as part of the '2024 University R&D Seed Planning Project' for the task titled 'Localization Development of a Smart Metering Pump for Ship Ballast Water Capable of High-Pressure, High-Precision Continuous Quantitative Injection.'
The '2024 University R&D Seed Planning Project' is a program promoted by Busan Technopark to secure R&D planning resources focused on the conditions of local industries and the competitiveness of future new industries, by fostering cooperation between universities and industries to vitalize regional R&D.
This workshop was attended by numerous stakeholders, including Dong-Eui Institute of Technology as the lead institution for the seed planning project, as well as participating organizations such as IM Tech and Techcross Co., Ltd., a company specializing in ship ballast water treatment systems.
During the event, participants shared interim results of the planning project, presented on the trends and technologies of the ship ballast water treatment system industry, and discussed the localization of the quantitative injection pump module for TRO neutralizer in ballast water treatment, as well as in-depth discussions on future technology development cooperation strategies.
In particular, to ensure the smooth progress of the localization and related R&D of the quantitative injection pump module for neutralizer in Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS), Techcross Co., Ltd., IM Tech, and the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology signed a tripartite agreement and agreed to actively cooperate.
Kwon Ilgeun, a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology and the principal investigator, stated, "Based on the industry-academia cooperation system established through this workshop, we plan to accelerate technology development so that the quantitative injection pump module for neutralizer in Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS) can be localized at an early stage through the combined efforts of industry, demand sectors, and the university."
After the completion of this planning project under the '2024 University R&D Seed Planning Project,' the participating organizations plan to apply for government-supported R&D projects and officially begin the development of the quantitative injection pump module for neutralizer in Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS).
