[Full Text] Minju Party: "Yoon Administration's Reckless Actions Must Stop... Thorough Reform in the Regular National Assembly"

'2024 Jeonggi National Assembly Preparation Workshop' Resolution
Seeking Means and Methods to Revive Troubled Livelihoods
Fighting for Democracy, Human Rights, and Freedom of the Press

The Democratic Party of Korea adopted a resolution condemning the failures of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration and pledging to restore public welfare during a parliamentary workshop on the 30th.

All Democratic Party lawmakers stated in the resolution adopted immediately after the two-day "2024 Regular National Assembly Preparation Workshop" held at Nest Hotel in Jung-gu, Incheon, from the previous day until the 30th, that "public welfare is shattered and the economy is on the brink of bankruptcy," and declared, "We will stop the reckless rampage of the Yoon Seok-yeol regime and fight to the end to protect democracy, human rights, freedom of the press, and peace on the Korean Peninsula."

They criticized, "Due to stagnant growth rates and the three high burdens, small businesses and self-employed individuals are going bankrupt in succession, and the people are crying out in pain from the household debt bomb," adding, "Democracy has regressed 40 years, and freedom of the press has been brutally trampled."

They further stated, "President Yoon Seok-yeol has led the large-scale appointment of pro-Japanese New Right figures, carrying out a historical coup that destroys the identity and legitimacy of the Republic of Korea," and added, "By vetoing bills passed by the National Assembly 21 times according to the will of the people, President Yoon has directly denied the constitutional spirit of legislative power and the separation of powers."

They asserted, "We will definitely block the pro-Japanese submissive diplomacy and historical coup of the Yoon Seok-yeol regime that destroys the identity of the Republic of Korea," and "We will confront the excessive use of veto power by the Yoon Seok-yeol regime head-on to protect the authority of the National Assembly and the constitutional spirit of the separation of powers."

They continued, "The great people chose the Democratic Party with overwhelming support in the last general election, marking the first time in constitutional history that the main opposition party secured a solo majority," and "We will devote ourselves with utmost diligence to the 2024 regular National Assembly solely for the people, heeding their will and following their mandate."

After two years and four months of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration’s arrogance and reckless unilateralism, the fate of the Republic of Korea stands on a knife’s edge.

Public welfare is shattered, and the economy is on the verge of bankruptcy. Due to stagnant growth rates and the three high burdens, small businesses and the self-employed are going bankrupt in succession, and the people are crying out in pain from the household debt bomb. Democracy has regressed 40 years, and freedom of the press has been brutally trampled. National secrets have been leaked due to incompetent security, and peace on the Korean Peninsula and public safety are threatened by hostile policies toward North Korea.

President Yoon Seok-yeol has led the large-scale appointment of pro-Japanese New Right figures, carrying out a historical coup that destroys the identity and legitimacy of the Republic of Korea. By vetoing bills passed by the National Assembly 21 times according to the will of the people, President Yoon has directly denied the constitutional spirit of legislative power and the separation of powers.

The prosecution and the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission have unjustly absolved Kim Geon-hee’s receipt of luxury bags. Due to the regime’s reckless tyranny, diligent and conscientious public officials have taken their own lives. Fairness and justice have disappeared, replaced by corruption. The government is helpless in the face of a medical crisis, endangering the lives of the people. This is an unprecedented total crisis and chaos.

The Republic of Korea is a democratic republic. All power in the Republic of Korea comes from the people. Democracy means that both the president and the National Assembly serve the will of the sovereign people. However, since the launch of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, all common sense has been broken.

The great people chose the Democratic Party of Korea with overwhelming support in the last general election, marking the first time in constitutional history that the main opposition party secured a solo majority. They warned President Yoon Seok-yeol once again with an impeachment petition signed by 1.3 million people. Yet the president mocks the people with blame-shifting and shirking responsibility instead of reflection and apology.

The top priority of the 22nd National Assembly is to revive public welfare and set the Republic of Korea right. There are many urgent issues to resolve, including democracy, freedom of the press, peace on the Korean Peninsula, justice and fairness, the livelihood economy, climate change, and population extinction. Accordingly, all 22nd Democratic Party lawmakers resolve as follows.

First, we will explore all possible means and methods to revive the shattered public welfare!

First, we will stop the reckless rampage of the Yoon Seok-yeol regime and fight to the end to protect democracy, human rights, freedom of the press, and peace on the Korean Peninsula!

First, we will definitely block the pro-Japanese submissive diplomacy and historical coup of the Yoon Seok-yeol regime that destroys the identity of the Republic of Korea!

First, we will confront the excessive use of veto power by the Yoon Seok-yeol regime head-on to protect the authority of the National Assembly and the constitutional spirit of the separation of powers!

First, we will devote ourselves solely for the people, heed their will, and follow their mandate with utmost diligence in the 2024 regular National Assembly!
