Ulsan City to Conduct Special Inspection of Chuseok Holiday Popular Foods for Hygiene and Origin

Targeting Manufacturers and Retailers of Popular Holiday Foods

Ulsan City will conduct a special inspection of high-demand food products from September 2 to 13 ahead of the Chuseok holiday.

The inspection will target businesses that manufacture or sell food products for ancestral rites, ready-to-eat foods, meat, and health functional foods intended as gifts, all of which see increased consumption during the holiday season.

The main inspection items include checking for unlicensed or unreported manufacturing and sales, use or sale of products past their expiration (distribution) date, and the appropriateness of origin labeling, such as missing or false origin information.

If any serious violations are found during the inspection, Ulsan City plans to investigate and refer the cases to the prosecution.

However, considering the difficulties faced by the local economy, minor mistakes or light violations will be corrected on site.

An Ulsan City official stated, "Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, we will strengthen food safety management for high-demand Chuseok foods to ensure a safe holiday for our citizens."

During inspections of high-demand food manufacturers and sellers for the previous Lunar New Year, Ulsan City uncovered 10 violations, referring 3 cases to the prosecution and issuing administrative actions for 7 cases. So far this year, 42 violations have been detected regarding the Food Sanitation Act and false origin labeling, with 22 cases resulting in administrative actions and 20 cases referred to the prosecution.
