Dongjak-gu, Full-Speed Ahead Toward a Dementia-Free Safe City

Improvements to Shuttle Bus Service at Dementia Safety Center and More

Dongjak-gu, Full-Speed Ahead Toward a Dementia-Free Safe City Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, visited the site of the first shuttle bus operation at the Dementia Safety Center in August last year and greeted the passengers. Provided by Dongjak-gu.

Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 30th that it is implementing various policies, including improvements to shuttle buses, to create a safe city free from dementia concerns.

Starting from the 2nd of next month, Dongjak-gu will change the shuttle buses for the Dongjak-gu Dementia Safety Center from large-sized (34 seats) to medium-sized (25 seats) and expand the number of stops. The existing large buses caused traffic congestion when stopping and were difficult to operate on narrow roads, limiting route options, so operational improvements were necessary.

The route will also be changed from the previous one passing through Nambusunhwan-ro to a route passing through Sadang-dong. Additionally, stops will be added in the Sadang, Sangdo, and Noryangjin areas, including Solbat Library, Soongsil University Exit 3, Sangdo 2-dong Community Service Center, and Nodeul Station Exit 4, to enhance user convenience.

The bus will operate six times a day on weekdays, starting with the first bus at 8:30 AM (in front of Sangdo 2-dong Community Service Center) and the last bus at 4:00 PM (Dongjak-gu Dementia Safety Center), running in a circular route.

Furthermore, from the 26th to the 30th, the Dongjak-gu Public Health Center conducted a ‘Dementia Intensive Screening’ on the first floor targeting seniors aged 75 (born in 1949), whose risk of dementia rapidly increases. Customized management will continue with detailed examinations and dementia prevention program connections based on the screening results.

On the 27th, a mobile caf? called ‘Gieokdabang,’ where seniors with mild cognitive impairment participate as baristas, operated and provided beverages to those who completed dementia screening, receiving great response.

Meanwhile, in May, Dongjak-gu gained attention by being the first nationwide to introduce the ‘Dementia CHECK, Gas CHECK’ project, where city gas meter readers act as partners caring for dementia patients.

Mayor Park Il-ha said, “We will build a detailed dementia safety net for the healthy and happy aging of Dongjak-gu residents,” adding, “We will continue to promote customized policies for seniors in preparation for the rapidly accelerating super-aged era.”
