Game Rating and Administration Committee, Research Project to Improve Review Standards... Collecting Opinions from Industry and Others

The Game Rating and Administration Committee has been confirmed to have begun full-scale work to improve the review standards.

According to the related industry on the 29th, the Committee announced a bid for a "Research Service for Improvement Measures of Game Rating Classification Standards" on the 13th of this month.

This research service is a follow-up measure based on prior research results indicating that the domestic game review system is conservative and that social atmosphere or specific complaints may influence judgments, necessitating the establishment of reasonable review standards.

According to the request for proposals, the Committee will investigate the differences between overseas game rating classification standards and domestic standards through this research service.

Additionally, it plans to examine the rating systems and standards of similar domestic rating organizations, hold meetings with the online game and arcade game industries, and gather opinions.

The research team will form a standards maintenance group consisting of up to nine experts, including Committee members, stakeholders, and game user organizations. The standards maintenance group will engage in at least four meetings to conduct in-depth discussions and feasibility reviews on improvement tasks.

The Committee plans to derive revised rating classification regulations and committee regulations that comprehensively consider international standards, fairness among media, and social norms.

The bid for the research service was unsuccessful in the opening on the 26th, but the Committee is reported to be pursuing a re-bid. The research service is expected to take about four months, and if the bid is completed around September, a concrete conclusion on the rating classification improvement plan is expected to be released as early as the end of the year or by early next year at the latest.
