Republican vice-presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump's running mate, Senator J.D. Vance, has been embroiled in controversy over remarks deemed misogynistic.

CNN reported on the 28th (local time) that Vance criticized Randy Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), while responding to questions about improving the education system at a forum held in Ohio in 2021. At the time, he said, "I don't want to get personal, but too many leaders in the left-wing camp, who have no children themselves, are trying to indoctrinate our kids." He added, "Randy Weingarten, who leads the most powerful teachers' union in this country, has no children. If he wants to brainwash and destroy kids' minds, he should have his own first and leave our kids alone."

Weingarten is a homosexual who is married to a woman with two daughters. She has introduced herself as having become a mother through marriage. Earlier, the AFT declared its support for Democratic vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris last month.

After Vance's remarks sparked controversy, his campaign began issuing clarifications. Spokesperson Taylor Van Kirk stated in a press release, "There is nothing more threatening to American children than elites like Randy Weingarten, who is supported by Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, injecting leftist ideology into our schools." He added, "There are many excellent teachers nationwide, and J.D.'s criticism of Weingarten is not aimed at them."

Vance has previously faced backlash for criticizing Democratic politicians, including Vice President Harris, as "childless women," fueling accusations of misogyny. In July 2021, he appeared on Fox News and attacked them as "childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives," arguing, "Because they have no children, they have no direct stake in the future of the country."

In response, Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston posted the remarks on her social media, saying, "I can't believe such words come from someone who could become the Vice President of the United States." She added, "I pray your daughter is lucky enough to have children on her own someday. As a second option, I hope she doesn't have to rely on IVF (in vitro fertilization)."
