Implemented in the Second Semester of This Year... 10,479 Applicants from 415 Schools
Child-Friendly Environment... Providing Customized Programs
The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education (Superintendent Seo Geoseok) announced on the 28th that it will fully implement the 'Jeonbuk-type Neulbom School' for first graders in 415 elementary schools across the province starting from the second semester.
According to the Jeonbuk Office of Education, a demand survey by school showed that out of 11,178 first-grade students, 10,479, or 93.7%, wished to participate in Neulbom School.
Neulbom School is a concept that combines the existing elementary school 'after-school' and 'care' programs. It is a comprehensive educational program that connects various educational resources from schools and local communities outside regular classes to support students' growth and development.
The characteristic of the Jeonbuk-type Neulbom School is that it expands the warm space of Neulbom both inside and outside the school to support all students who wish to participate together. Basically, it operates until 6 p.m. inside the school and until 8 p.m. outside the school.
Any first-grade student who wishes can participate in Neulbom School. Programs and spaces are secured as much as possible according to each school's demand to accommodate all students who wish to join. Students receive a customized two-hour program free of charge every day.

Earlier, the Jeonbuk Office of Education prepared the operation spaces, programs, instructors, and personnel for Neulbom School by conducting demand surveys for first-grade parents, school consulting, and on-site inspections starting in May for the full implementation in the second semester.
They also secured high-quality customized programs through cooperation with local governments, regional universities, and related organizations, and prepared specialized programs utilizing various local educational resources in each of the 14 education support offices.
In particular, dedicated classrooms for Neulbom School programs inside schools are provided as safety classrooms and multipurpose classrooms. Efforts were also made to secure spaces outside schools through cooperation with local governments and communities.
There are 1,136 dedicated Neulbom classrooms inside schools, and 1,874 classrooms shared with special rooms or general classes. Additionally, 242 spaces outside schools were secured, totaling 3,240 Neulbom service spaces.
First-grade classrooms were improved into child-friendly environments where students can stay safely. Efforts were also made to enhance environments such as teacher research rooms used for teachers' work and meetings during program operation.
Dedicated personnel for Neulbom were also assigned. As of July 1, 300 Neulbom assistants were hired and assigned either one per school or on a rotating basis considering school size, and training was conducted to strengthen their work capabilities for stable operation.
To address waiting demand caused by lack of space inside schools in overcrowded and new urban areas, Neulbom outside schools was expanded. A total of 211 places such as small libraries, welfare centers, youth centers, cooperatives, educational farms, and local children's centers were selected to operate various programs.
Superintendent Seo Geoseok said, "The satisfaction rate for Jeonbuk Neulbom School is over 90%, and parents' response and expectations are high," adding, "We will do our best to help solve problems such as care gaps, career interruptions, and increased private education costs by providing Neulbom School services."
