"Operation of Illegal Medical Practice Damage Report Center"
As the Nursing Act is expected to be passed in the plenary session on the 28th, the Korean Medical Association (KMA) has once again strongly opposed it.
On the morning of the 28th, the KMA issued a statement saying, "The Nursing Act passed the National Assembly due to a secret agreement between the ruling and opposition parties late on the 27th," adding, "It is a farce that the ruling party led the passage of the bill exactly as it was when the President exercised the veto power."
They continued, "The Nursing Act is a medical malpractice law that deepens professional conflicts and destroys the training ecosystem for residents, while also being a self-defeating move that endangers nurses," adding, "Illegal unlicensed medical practices will become rampant, and due to confusion caused by the difficulty in specifically defining the scope of work, the medical field will become chaotic, with the damage ultimately passed on to the public."
Nevertheless, the KMA stated that it will strive for the normalization of medical care. They said, "We cannot give up on South Korea's medical system, which has fallen to the bottom," and "We intend to fulfill our role as guardians by operating a damage report center for harm caused by illegal medical practices by nurses, actively responding to incidents that threaten the health and lives of the public."
They also emphasized, "We will thoroughly monitor inadequate medical school education to ensure that the quality of education does not decline and that excellent medical personnel are produced," and "We will do our best to transform the medical deterioration atrocities into genuine medical reform led by the medical community and restore the normalization of medical care."
