The replacement work for six aging escalators in the transfer passage at Nowon Station on Subway Lines 4 and 7 has been completed, and the escalators will be operational and the passageway opened from 10 a.m. on the 30th.
According to Seoul Metro on the 27th, the Nowon Station transfer passage was originally scheduled to be closed until September this year, but to minimize inconvenience to citizens, 1.5 times more workers than usual were deployed to carry out complex construction processes, shortening the construction period by 30 days ahead of schedule.
Due to the escalator replacement work that began in June last year, the transfer passage at Nowon Station was closed from December 20 of the same year. Transfer passengers had to use indirect transfers via external exits, causing inconvenience in using the station.
For passenger safety, the test operation period of the replaced escalators was extended from 3 days to 10 days. In addition, special inspections to directly check for malfunctions, internal completion inspections, and installation inspections by external authorized agencies were conducted thoroughly to verify safety.
Kim Seong-ryeol, Senior Director of Seoul Metro, said, “We prioritized safety and did our best to complete the work early. We sincerely thank all citizens who endured the cold and hot weather and actively cooperated with the construction over the past 14 months.”
