Liam and Noel Leave '27.08.24' Message on SNS
UK Media Simultaneously Report "Reunion Concert Next Year"
Is this a rumor that resurfaces every now and then, or is it truly good news to look forward to? After 15 years of disbandment, the possibility of a reunion of Oasis, the band known as the 'Second Beatles' and a legend of Britpop, has been raised.
On the 25th (local time), Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, and Oasis's official social media accounts simultaneously posted a short video announcing '8:00 AM on August 27, 2024.' Although there was no special explanation, many fans did not hide their expectations, believing that an important announcement related to the reunion would be made.
Earlier, the BBC reported, "Secret early versions of songs included in Oasis's debut album 'Definitely Maybe' will be released this week," adding, "Speculation about the band's reunion is emerging."
The UK edition of Rolling Stone also reported, "Liam and Noel Gallagher appear to have acknowledged the speculation that Oasis will reunite next summer, which has been circulating throughout the weekend."
According to reports from local media such as The Times and NME, the Gallagher brothers, Noel and Liam, have visited their hometowns Manchester and London, with quite specific plans to perform next summer at venues like Hyde Park and Wembley Stadium.
Oasis was formed in 1991 and debuted in 1994. Centered around brothers Noel Gallagher (guitar) and Liam Gallagher (vocals), all seven of their studio albums reached number one on the UK charts, and their cumulative album sales have reached 90 million. They are familiar to music fans in Korea as well with songs like 'Don't Look Back In Anger,' 'Wonderwall,' and 'Champagne Supernova.'
Oasis, which enjoyed its heyday with numerous hit songs, abruptly ended when Noel suddenly announced his departure from the band just before a concert in Paris on August 28, 2009, and Liam later declared the band's breakup.
Although Liam and Noel were brothers, they were completely incompatible both personally and musically, even calling each other "trash" during intense conflicts. After Oasis disbanded, both became passionate fans of their hometown football team Manchester City FC, but they reportedly cut ties so completely that they avoided even accidental encounters.
If Oasis reunites, it will carry additional significance as this year marks the 30th anniversary of their debut. The Times reported on the 24th, citing industry insiders, that Oasis plans to perform next summer at venues such as Wembley Stadium in London and Heaton Park in Manchester, and will be headliners at Glastonbury, one of the UK's largest music festivals.
On the 25th, Liam Gallagher took the stage at the Reading Festival in the UK and drew media attention by dedicating Oasis's song 'Half the World Away' to Noel Gallagher. All eyes are on whether this event will truly lead to a reunion.
