Ulsan City Launches 'Children First' Campaign for Child Traffic Safety

Secured 650 Million KRW in National Funding for Safe School Routes in Child Protection Zones

Intelligent Crosswalks and Safety Fences to Ensure Children's Pedestrian Safety

On the morning of the 26th, Ulsan City launched a joint public-private children's traffic safety campaign called "Children First" in the children's protection zone near Yongyeon Elementary School in Yaum-dong, Nam-gu.

This campaign was organized to strengthen awareness of traffic safety and prevent traffic accidents involving children, in line with the start of the second semester at elementary schools.

Over 100 people participated in the event, including Ulsan Mayor Kim Dookyum, officials from Ulsan City and the Office of Education (schools), the National Police Agency, Korea Road Traffic Authority, Korea Transportation Safety Authority, parents, children, and members of traffic volunteer organizations.

Participants emphasized the slogan "Stop First, Let Children Go First," highlighting that children must be given absolute protection and focusing on promoting safe walking environments for children.

Starting with this event, all five districts of Ulsan plan to conduct children's traffic safety campaigns throughout September.

Mayor Kim Dookyum stated, "We will work to improve the traffic safety environment so that children can go to school with peace of mind," and added, "We ask all citizens to pay attention to and participate in preventing children's traffic accidents by making safe driving a habit within children's protection zones."

Ulsan City is currently investing 3.8 billion KRW this year to prevent traffic accidents in children's protection zones by improving school routes, installing safety signs, maintaining and replacing traffic signals, and installing unmanned traffic enforcement equipment.

In particular, during the second half of this year, a total project budget of 1.3 billion KRW, including 650 million KRW in national funds, will be used to create safe school routes at 13 schools in the region by installing intelligent (smart) crosswalks, protective fences, and walkways utilizing school grounds.
