Gumi City to Expand Public Parking Lots and Improve Pedestrian Environment

Less Parking Worries with Parking Towers, Increased Safety with Smart Traffic Lights

Smart Traffic Lights Serve as Guardians of Pedestrian Safety

Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province has allocated a supplementary budget for the second half of the year to launch new projects, focusing on expanding public parking lots and improving pedestrian environments.

In November last year, the city secured a special grant of 2 billion KRW after its "National Industrial Complex No. 3 Multipurpose Complex Center Construction Project" was selected in the "Regional Investment Attraction Environment Improvement Contest" organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Having completed administrative procedures in the first half of the year, Gumi City will now actively pursue the project using the 2 billion KRW secured for design and construction in this supplementary budget.

The multipurpose complex center will be located in Jinpyeong-dong, the 3rd industrial complex, and will include various facilities such as a parking tower (with 150 spaces), a corporate conference hall, and an industrial exhibition hall.

Once completed, the center will significantly alleviate the shortage of meeting and promotional spaces for companies in the industrial complex, as well as ease parking difficulties. This is expected to enhance the competitiveness of the industrial complex and improve the working environment.

Additionally, Gumi City has allocated 220 million KRW for the "Smart Crosswalk Installation Project in Children's Protection Zones" to create a safer pedestrian environment for children.

This project involves installing pedestrian automatic recognition signal systems, which detect pedestrians entering the designated area in front of the crosswalk and automatically provide a walk signal along with voice guidance, offering an advanced traffic signal system.

Seven locations, including Cheonsaeng Elementary School, are under review as potential sites for the project, and final installation sites will be confirmed after consultation with the police.

Mayor Kim Jangho stated, "Transportation policy is an important part that directly affects citizens' daily lives," adding, "We will do our best in the remaining second half of the year to ensure that citizens can experience a safer and more convenient transportation environment."
