Trump Running Mate Vance Regrets Misunderstanding Over 'Cat Lady' Remark

"Trump to Veto Federal Abortion Ban Bill"

J.D. Vance, the Republican vice-presidential candidate and U.S. Senator, clarified on the 25th (local time) that people are misunderstanding his 'cat lady' remark.

In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" on the same day, when asked if he regretted the comment, Vance said, "I regret that many people misunderstood it," and claimed, "The Democrats and Kamala Harris are lying about it."

He added, "It was simply a statement made with the intention of saying that anti-family changes are happening in our country, and we want to change that." He also explained, "I just want women to have more choices."

Earlier, in a 2021 Fox News interview, Vance targeted Vice President Harris and others, claiming that the Democratic administration is "effectively run by childless 'cat ladies,' who are trying to make America as miserable as their own lives."

Recently, as Vance became the Republican vice-presidential candidate, this remark has been reexamined, leading to a significant drop in his favorability.

Regarding the abortion issue, he mentioned that former President Donald Trump explicitly stated he would exercise a veto, saying, "If you do not support this as the President of the United States, you fundamentally have to exercise a veto." He also conveyed, "His policy is that the abortion issue should be left to the states."

About the upcoming U.S. presidential election in November, he said, "I am confident it will be a free and fair election." Meanwhile, former President Trump has already hinted at the possibility of not accepting the results.

On independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. suspending his campaign and endorsing former President Trump, Vance evaluated, "This proves that Trump and the Republican Party are a 'big tent' party."

Meanwhile, when Kennedy Jr. was asked on Fox News whether he had received any promises from former President Trump regarding a cabinet position, he drew a line, saying, "There were no promises."
