The long-standing chronic complaint in Jangseong-gun regarding the 'Woljeon Village Livestock Barn' in Donghwa-myeon has been resolved after 26 years. This barn will be repurposed through a change of use to serve as a government grain storage facility.
According to Jangseong-gun on the 25th, a field mediation meeting hosted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission was held on the 21st at the Donghwa-myeon Administrative Welfare Center, attended by Kim Han-jong, the head of Jangseong-gun, representatives of the complainants and village residents, and the representative of Haegwang Livestock. They agreed to change the use of the barn to a government grain storage warehouse.
The barn located in Woljeon Village, Donghwa-myeon, began operating as a pigsty in 1998. However, village residents continuously demanded solutions to odor problems, leading to a compromise mediated by the county to close the pigsty and change the livestock type to a cow barn.
Nevertheless, the villagers maintained that changing to a cow barn would not resolve the odor issue and continued to file collective complaints opposing the barn's construction until recently.
Following this field mediation meeting by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, Haegwang Livestock, the barn owner, will change the barn's use to a government grain storage warehouse, and Jangseong-gun will support the necessary administrative procedures during this process. The residents agreed without objection to the changes and pledged to actively cooperate with the related construction efforts.
Kim Han-jong, head of Jangseong-gun, said, “I offer my condolences and congratulations to the residents who have endured discomfort for a long time,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure the smooth progress of the mediation plan.”
