Assemblyman Moon Geum-ju, Expansion of Local Public Enterprises' Participation in Renewable Energy Projects

Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Moon Geum-ju (photo·Goheung·Boseong·Jangheung·Gangjin) announced that she has taken the lead in proposing the "Partial Amendment to the Local Public Enterprises Act" to expand the participation of local public enterprises in renewable energy projects. If this bill passes the National Assembly, it will open the way for Jeonnam Development Corporation to also participate in renewable energy projects.

Recently, as the need to respond to climate change and strengthen energy security has been emphasized, the necessity to expand local public enterprises' entry into renewable energy projects has gained more attention. Along with this, there is a continuous demand to strengthen local competitiveness through the sustainable growth of local public enterprises.

As a solution to these needs and demands, there have been calls for local public enterprises to actively participate in renewable energy projects. However, the current "Local Public Enterprises Act" does not specify renewable energy projects within the scope of local public enterprises' business, which has been pointed out as a limitation for local public enterprises to actively enter renewable energy projects.

Accordingly, lawmaker Moon Geum-ju has taken the lead in proposing the "Partial Amendment to the Local Public Enterprises Act," which specifies renewable energy projects within the scope of the Act to create conditions that allow local public enterprises to actively participate in renewable energy projects.

Lawmaker Moon Geum-ju stated, “The climate crisis and the issue of local extinction are the most urgent and important problems facing the Republic of Korea.” She added, “Institutional politics must support the expansion of local public enterprises' participation in renewable energy projects to respond to the climate crisis and promote the sustainable growth of local public enterprises.”
