On the 25th, LG Electronics announced that its self-developed 5G private network solution recently received the first-ever domestic network equipment certification in the 5G private network industry from the Korea Network Industry Association.

The domestic network equipment certification is granted after reviewing whether the product is developed and manufactured domestically. It can be used as proof when supplying products to public institutions. A 5G private network is a customized 5G network provided for specific spaces such as factories and buildings. With fast data transmission speeds and excellent stability, it is considered an essential infrastructure for industrial innovation, including digital and artificial intelligence (AI) transformation (DX·AX) and smart factory operations.

LG Electronics’ 5G private network solution is a technology that implements network functions handled by existing 5G communication equipment such as base station devices (RAN) and 5G core (CORE) through software. Without replacing hardware, upgrading the software can improve data processing speed and stability, thereby reducing operating costs.

Based on LG Electronics’ software capabilities, it also provides customized solutions optimized for various customer requirements and installation environments. For example, for customers with high security needs, a dedicated network that blocks external access can be built, and for customers who collaborate frequently with other companies, a network that can connect to external clouds can be established. Additionally, it offers device control solutions that enable integrated management by connecting LG Electronics products such as robots and signage, as well as customer-owned CCTV and smart safety equipment, through the 5G private network.

Based on this certification, LG Electronics plans to actively pursue 5G private network projects not only for companies seeking to build smart factories but also for public institutions. LG Electronics holds about 30,000 communication patents, including 5G, the highest among global companies. Last year, it added 'telecommunications business' to its business objectives, completing preparations for commercialization. It has also undergone verification processes by trial operating 5G private networks at its Tennessee factory in the U.S., a smart factory in Chungbuk, a logistics center in Incheon, and a university hospital in Seoul.

According to market research firm MarketsandMarkets, the global 5G private network market size is expected to grow from approximately $2 billion in 2023 to about $11.8 billion in 2028, with an average annual growth rate of over 40%.

Lee Joon-sung, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics’ Private Network Business Development Office, said, "Based on LG Electronics’ outstanding 5G technology and operational know-how accumulated in various spaces such as factories, logistics centers, and hospitals, we will provide customized 5G private network solutions to customers who want fast and stable network construction."
