Newly Built Near Olympic-daero, 9 Wide-Area Bus Routes
Turnaround Without Entering Downtown, Bus Travel Time Reduced by 10 Minutes
A Leading Model Completed Through Cooperation of Government and 3 Local Governments
Bus usage around Dangsan Station, a major transportation transfer hub in the southwestern area of Seoul, will become more convenient. With the opening of a dedicated transfer center exclusively for metropolitan buses directly connected to Dangsan Station, which serves Subway Lines 2 and 9, citizens will be able to quickly transfer from metropolitan buses to city buses, subways, and more.
On the 25th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the 'Dangsan Station Metropolitan Transfer Center' will officially begin operation starting with the first bus on the 31st.
The newly established metropolitan transfer center can accommodate nine metropolitan bus routes simultaneously. It features a ramp entering the transfer center from Olympic-daero and a turnaround road connecting to Nodeul-ro. Construction began in March 2023 and was completed in one and a half years. As a transfer facility supporting bus-to-subway connections (a public transportation linkage-type transfer center), private vehicles and other general vehicles are not permitted to use it.
With the opening of the metropolitan transfer center, citizens will no longer need to enter heavily congested city roads, and bus travel times between Dangsan Station and Gimpo/Incheon are expected to be reduced by more than 10 minutes. Traffic congestion around Dangsan-ro and Yangpyeong-ro caused by the crossing of metropolitan buses and general vehicles and long-term bus stops is also expected to decrease significantly.
Pedestrian convenience for transfers has also been enhanced. The metropolitan transfer center (1st floor) and Dangsan Station (2nd floor) are directly connected by elevators and escalators, dramatically improving the walking environment for public transportation users. Additionally, sufficient walkways and waiting areas have been secured for the safety and convenience of bus users.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government emphasized that the installation and operation of this metropolitan transfer center is a metropolitan transportation project jointly undertaken by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Metropolitan Transport Commission), and the three metropolitan local governments of Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon to solve transportation problems in the metropolitan area. It will serve as a pioneering model for addressing metropolitan transportation issues. The establishment of the metropolitan transfer center, conducted as part of the 'Metropolitan Bus Transfer and Turnaround Facility Improvement Project,' was led by Seoul City, which took charge of design and construction, while project costs were shared by the government and local governments (Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon).
Yoon Jong-jang, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Transportation Office, stated, "With the opening of the Dangsan Station Metropolitan Transfer Center, public transportation transfers for citizens of Gimpo and Incheon will become more convenient, and traffic congestion around Dangsan Station will be greatly reduced, improving the quality of life for Seoul citizens. Moving forward, we will establish public transportation policy directions for Seoul citizens and metropolitan residents by expanding transfer centers at major entry points into downtown Seoul."
