On the afternoon of the 23rd, Kang Gi-jeong, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, attended the performance of the madanggeuk (traditional Korean outdoor play) troupe Nori Pae "Sinmyeong"’s "Father's Liberation Diary" at Seobitmaru Culture and Arts Center.

This performance, commemorating the 50th anniversary of "Sinmyeong," is an original premiere adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name, "Father's Liberation Diary."

Mayor Kang watched the performance alongside the original novel’s author, writer Jeong Ji-a, and Gwangju city officials, sharing his reflections. He also visited the cast members who had devoted their best efforts to the preparation of the performance to encourage them.

Kang Gi-jeong, Mayor of Gwangju, stated, "The understanding of a human being that is reached only after death, and the love discovered within it, was deeply moving. Gwangju City will continue to strive to ensure that meaningful works are performed and that citizens can enjoy those performances."

Gwangju City supported this performance as part of the "Resident Troupe Support Project" for performance venues. This project aims to foster excellent performing arts creation and production and to revitalize performance venues through collaboration between performing arts groups and public performance halls. This year, five groups, including "Sinmyeong," were supported.
