Kukim: "Opposition Creates Fear Again Without Apologizing for Fukushima Rumor-Mongering"

"No Evidence of Seafood Contamination
People No Longer Fall for Rumor Marketing"

On the 24th, marking one year since the discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, the People Power Party criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for once again engaging in 'fear marketing' without apologizing for their previous 'rumor-mongering.'

In a statement, spokesperson Kim Hye-ran emphasized, "Last year, the opposition parties including the Democratic Party and civic groups vehemently opposed the discharge, spreading rumors such as 'radioactive fish' and 'cesium-contaminated rockfish,' and took to the streets. However, contrary to those concerns, there has been no evidence so far that our seafood or marine areas have been contaminated."

This was a rebuttal to Democratic Party senior spokesperson Cho Seung-rae's briefing the day before, where he pointed out that "the discharged contaminated water will take at least 4 to 5 years, up to 10 years, to reach our seas."

Spokesperson Kim continued, "Instead of apologizing or reflecting on their rumor-mongering, the Democratic Party is once again hastily creating fear," criticizing, "They are making baseless statements like 'there may be no impact now, but who knows in the future,' as if to say 'if not, then forget it.'"

Kim added, "If the Democratic Party's claims were true, North Pacific countries including the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where ocean currents arrive before reaching our country, would not remain silent," and warned, "The public should remember that they will no longer be deceived by baseless 'rumor marketing.'"

Finally, spokesperson Kim stated, "The Democratic Party should stop inciting now and instead support protecting our fishermen and seafood industry workers and strengthening the competitiveness of the seafood industry," and declared, "The People Power Party and the Yoon Seok-yeol administration will continue to do their best to protect public safety through thorough monitoring."
