Pohang City and BizHub Collaborate to Discover Successful Models for Fishing Village Revitalization Project
Mayor Lee: "We Will Strive to Establish Fishing Village Revitalization Hubs and Improve Residents' Quality of Life"
On the 23rd, Pohang City signed a business agreement with BizHub, a global leader in solutions utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), at the city hall's medium conference room for the creation of an "AI Smart Fishing Village Revitalization Hub."
The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Lee Kangdeok, BizHub CEO Kim Taejin, and Barkas Bardini, director at Amdocs USA, among others. The parties agreed to mutually cooperate in discovering successful models for Pohang City's Fishing Village Revitalization Project.
Through this agreement, the two organizations will collaborate on ▲creating smart fishing village revitalization hubs and developing small-scale fishing village spaces ▲implementing a pilot project for AI-powered smart streetlights ▲discovering successful models for the Fishing Village Revitalization Project ▲and revitalizing the local economy.
Pohang City was selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' "Fishing Village Revitalization Project (Type 2)" with Gupyung-ri Port in Guryongpo-eup and Igari Port in Cheongha-myeon last year, and this year, Gangsa 1-ri Port in Homigot-myeon was also chosen. Over four years, a total of 30 billion KRW (21 billion KRW in national funds) will be invested to inject new vitality into the fishing village economy.
The "Fishing Village Revitalization Project" is a project that supports overall living platforms and safety infrastructure for fishing villages facing relatively poor conditions due to limited job opportunities and lack of access to services, aiming to improve residential conditions and attract new workforce.
The Fishing Village Revitalization Projects currently underway at Gupyung-ri Port and Igari Port have completed comprehensive resident and local resource surveys, established master plans reflecting residents' opinions, and plan to implement social innovation experiments and linker organization discovery programs to solve community issues.
Gangsa 1-ri Port in Homigot-myeon, as a public-private partnership project, will be transformed into an economic and cultural space full of attractions and experiences, such as Haenyeo (female diver) experiences, by linking with the Damupo White Village project and utilizing the region's tangible and intangible resources.
Through this business agreement, the two organizations will select one of the three sites chosen for the Fishing Village Revitalization Project to implement a pilot AI-powered smart streetlight project, aiming to improve living conditions in fishing villages and enhance residents' quality of life.
Smart streetlights, utilizing AI, big data, and IoT technologies, will go beyond simple lighting functions to collect big data on the environment and traffic through various sensors and help maintain public safety using cameras.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "Recently, more citizens are seeking healing lives away from the complexities of the city by visiting fishing villages. By creating fishing village revitalization hubs led by the public and private sectors and developing fishing village spaces using AI, we will improve the quality of life for local residents and move forward in creating a smart city enjoyed by all citizens."
Kim Taejin, CEO of BizHub, said, "We are striving to provide a sustainable IT environment by offering various solutions that combine domestic IT systems and IoT technology. Starting with this business agreement, we will do our utmost to contribute to Pohang City's fishing village revitalization hubs and the creation of a smart city."
