The meeting was organized to explain to the business community the "social dialogue platform" proposed as a role of the 22nd National Assembly by Speaker Woo, and to facilitate communication between the KCCI and the National Assembly on various economic issues.
From the National Assembly, Speaker Woo was joined by Democratic Party members Jeong Tae-ho (Planning and Finance Committee whip), Kang Jun-hyun (Political Affairs Committee whip), and Jin Sun-hee, Deputy Secretary-General for Legislation of the National Assembly Secretariat. From the KCCI, Chairman Chey and 14 chairpersons from the Korea and Seoul Chambers of Commerce attended.
Chairman Chey said, "Competitions akin to national contests are being held in advanced industries, and our companies want to win medals with full dedication like Olympic athletes," requesting support from the government and the National Assembly. He also introduced, "National challenges such as the climate crisis and low birthrate require efforts from everyone, not just one side," adding, "The KCCI operates a communication platform to gather various opinions."
He continued, "Companies will not only earn money with their core competencies but also strive to solve social problems and approach the public with a new entrepreneurial spirit," and said, "I hope the National Assembly will continue to have many consultations with the KCCI."
In response, Speaker Woo said, "I welcome Chairman Chey’s leadership emphasizing social communication and the efforts of companies to reach out to the public," and pledged to continue cooperation with the KCCI.
Speaker Woo emphasized the necessity of social dialogue, saying, "Social dialogue is not optional but unavoidable," and added, "Recent conflicts are very complexly intertwined, so they can only be resolved through dialogue together."
He went on, "The KCCI is diagnosing and proposing solutions to issues such as regional disparities, aging population, and low birthrate, and we intend to focus on these," and said, "If you provide various opinions, the National Assembly will carefully identify what can be resolved by itself and what can be addressed through government cooperation."
Additionally, the Seoul Chamber of Commerce chairpersons requested improvements related to insufficient support for strategic industries compared to competing countries. The meeting also focused on policy tasks to strengthen global competitiveness, promote a dynamic economy, and strategies for technological superiority in advanced technologies.
The KCCI also distributed copies of the new book First Mover Takes All, which covers the content of the "Advanced Industry National Strategy," to all attendees.
