Yeosu Industrial Complex Plant Construction Labor and Management Sign '2024 Wage and Collective Agreement'

Major Compromise Achieved Through Mutual Concessions and Cooperation Between Labor and Management

‘Declaration of Co-prosperity’ Proclaimed to Establish Industrial Peace

Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 23rd that the Yeosu Industrial Complex Plant Construction labor and management have signed the ‘Wage and Collective Agreement’ for the fourth consecutive year without any disputes, through mutual consideration.


According to the city, at 2 p.m. on the 23rd, the signing ceremony for the wage and collective agreement and the announcement of the joint declaration for mutual development were held in the city hall’s main conference room, attended by about 40 people including the Yeosu Branch of the National Plant Construction Union (Branch Chief Kim Jeong-hwan), Yeosu Industrial Complex Construction Industry Council (Chairman Kim Kyung-soo), Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu, Vice Chairman Moon Gap-tae of Yeosu City Council, Lee Kyung-geun, Director of the Yeosu Employment and Labor Office, and Han Moon-seon, Chairman of the Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Both labor and management held their first meeting on May 30 and reached a tentative agreement after 19 rounds of negotiations by July 31, finally signing the agreement on this day.


Prior to this, on the 2nd, the Yeosu Branch of the Plant Construction Union conducted a vote on the tentative agreement, with 76.7% of union members approving it.


The agreement includes ▲ wage increases of 7,600 KRW for newly hired skilled workers and full-time workplace employees, and 6,000 KRW for assistant workers and female employees ▲ a 3,000 KRW increase in the welding RT (Radiographic Test) allowance ▲ discussions through the labor-management council on applying a 50% wage premium for shutdown (S/D) and turnaround (T/A) maintenance work ▲ granting one day of paid leave and two days of unpaid leave for the death of a spouse’s sibling or sibling-in-law.


Following the agreement ceremony, the Yeosu City Labor-Management-Civil-Government Council issued a ‘Joint Declaration for the Mutual Development of Plant Construction Labor and Management.’


Representatives from labor, management, civil society, and government agreed on ▲ establishing a productive and exemplary labor-management culture ▲ creating a favorable environment for business and labor ▲ job creation ▲ contributing to regional economic revitalization ▲ regional development and the pursuit of citizens’ happy lives.


Jeong Gi-myeong, Mayor of Yeosu and chairman of the Yeosu City Labor-Management-Civil-Government Council, said, “Despite the scorching heat, I thank both negotiation teams for reaching a smooth agreement through mutual respect and cooperation between labor and management,” adding, “I ask you to lead the way in making Yeosu a good place to invest by becoming a model of coexistence in our society through continuous communication and cooperation between labor and management.”
