Pusan National University Nano Semiconductor Process and Equipment Contract Department Project Group
Presenting a Leading Industry-Academia Cooperation Model for Semiconductor Talent Development
Experts from government, industry, and academia have joined forces, led by Pusan National University, to nurture specialized talent in the semiconductor process and equipment sector in Busan.
Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) hosted the "2024 Industry-Academia R&D Research Presentation and Corporate Exchange Meeting" on the 22nd at the university campus and the Nongshim Hotel in Oncheon-dong, Dongnae-gu, Busan, organized by the Nano Semiconductor Process and Equipment Contract Department Project Group (Director Lee Haejun, Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering).
The event was divided into two parts. In the first part, held on campus, participating company professionals from AP System, EO Technics, H&iruja, and others, together with supervising professors, closely reviewed the progress of Pusan National University students' industry-academia R&D projects and provided feedback based on practical problem-solving, presenting a leading model of practice-oriented education based on industry-academia cooperation.
The second part, held at Nongshim Hotel, included introductions of new participating companies in the semiconductor equipment field?such as Tokyo Electron Korea, Duksan Hi-Metal, and S&S Tech?to the Nano Semiconductor Process and Equipment Contract Department Project Group, followed by a special lecture session.
During the special lecture, Lee Dongkyu, Head of the New Semiconductor Materials Division at Busan City, presented "Strategies for Fostering the Power Semiconductor Industry in Busan." The panel discussion featured Park Wanjae, Senior Researcher at SEMES, Seo Gwangwon, CEO of KWT Solution, Seung Byeonghun, Executive Vice President of S&S Tech, Shin Taeho, Vice President of ICD, and Ji Sanghyun, Executive Director of AP System, who discussed the qualities companies seek in semiconductor talent and the role they expect universities to play in education.
Lee Haejun, Director of the Nano Semiconductor Process and Equipment Contract/Non-Contract Department Project Group at Pusan National University, stated, "To cultivate outstanding talent in the semiconductor process and equipment sector, it is essential to implement innovative education systems focused on solving real-world problems, such as industry-academia R&D projects, rather than limiting learning to theory. This event was organized with the intention of establishing a leading educational platform that plays a pivotal role in the semiconductor process and equipment field through contract department operations, emphasizing the necessity of cooperation among the government, Busan and southeastern regional governments, industry, and academia."
He further emphasized, "Through this exchange meeting, we aim to secure unrivaled competitiveness for Korea’s semiconductor industry, starting with the southeastern region, and to nurture talent who will excel on the global stage."
