Busan City to Host the 14th Busan Robot Competition

Opening Ceremony at BEXCO at 10 a.m. on the 24th, Attended by City Director of Advanced Industry, President of Korea Institute of Robot Convergence, and 40 Others

A competition aimed at expanding the base of the 'robot industry', which is at the core of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and fostering talent will be held for two days starting from the 24th.

Busan City will host the '2024 14th Busan Robot Competition' at BEXCO for two days from the 24th to the 25th.


This event, now in its 14th year since the first edition in 2010, is organized by the city, supervised by the Korea Institute for Robot Convergence, and sponsored by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education.


Additionally, the National Pukyong National University Intelligent Robot Innovation Convergence University Project Group, Busan Robot Teacher Research Association, and Elementary S/W Education Engineering Research Association will serve as co-organizers to further enhance the professionalism of the competition.


The competition will feature seven contest categories?four for elementary students and three for middle and high school students?and three hands-on experience categories for elementary students (with parental participation). A total of 560 students from 291 teams, mainly elementary, middle, and high school students from Busan interested in robotics, are expected to participate.


The four elementary contest categories are: ▲'Robot Curling' ▲'Robot Siege Battle' ▲'Robot Escape Room' ▲'Elementary Hackathon'. The three middle and high school contest categories are: ▲'Robot Software (SW) Convergence Makerthon' ▲'AI Robot Creation' ▲'Mission to Mars'.


The three elementary hands-on experience categories are: ▲'Unplugged Coding Mission' ▲'Robot Control Mission' ▲'Treasure Hunt Mission'.


Outstanding participants in each contest category will be awarded prizes such as the Busan Mayor's Award.


In addition, a variety of programs and promotional booths will be operated separately to allow visitors to experience robots and coding, aiming to increase public interest and understanding of robotics.


The opening ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on the 24th at BEXCO. Around 40 people, including the Director of Busan's Advanced Industry Bureau, the President of the Korea Institute for Robot Convergence, the President of the Busan AI Robot Industry Association, the Head of the Pukyong National University Intelligent Robot Project Group, and the President of the Busan Future Industry Research Institute, will attend to celebrate the opening and encourage the participants.


National Assembly member Park Sooyoung (Nam-gu) will also deliver a congratulatory message via video to encourage the participants.

Park Dongseok, Director of the Busan Advanced Industry Bureau, said, "We expect this competition to be a hands-on learning opportunity that fosters scientific literacy and creative thinking among youth. In particular, the hands-on categories that allow participation with parents will be a great opportunity for families to naturally experience and understand robots together."
