"Traveling Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall Curator" Program at the 7th Residents' Assembly
"Reading the History of Siheung Haenggung through Paintings" at Community Representative Meetings
Geumcheon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun), announced that from August 26 to December 24, it will run the "Traveling Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall Curator" program and the "Reading the History of Siheung Haenggung through Paintings" program for local residents and community representatives at neighborhood community centers throughout the district.
Since July 2022, the district has operated the "Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall" (6th floor, 6 Geumha-ro 24-gil, Geumcheon-gu) to shed new light on the history of Siheung Haenggung and to foster a historical and cultural educational environment in the area.
These programs are designed for residents who may find it difficult to visit the exhibition hall or are unfamiliar with it. The exhibition hall's curators and guides will visit residents' assemblies and community representative meetings to share the history of Siheung Haenggung and King Jeongjo directly with the community.
During the residents' assemblies, the "Traveling Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall Curator" program will be held three times between August and September. The program includes a video presentation at the exhibition hall highlighting King Jeongjo's filial piety and love for the people, followed by a direct explanation from the curator and guide about the historical significance and value of Siheung Haenggung.
Additionally, promotional materials will be distributed to residents to spark their interest in the exhibition hall and encourage them to visit.
From August to December, on the 25th of each month, the "Reading the History of Siheung Haenggung through Paintings" program will be held during the community representative meetings at each neighborhood center. The exhibition hall's curator and guide will give a lecture on the history of Siheung Haenggung, using the "Hwaseong Haenghaengdo" (Painting of King Jeongjo's Royal Procession to Hwaseong) and specifically the "Hwanyeohaengnyeoldo" (Painting of the Return Royal Procession).
Yoo Seonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "I hope that residents of all ages will visit the Siheung Haenggung Exhibition Hall, view the exhibitions, and participate in educational programs, thereby gaining a deeper understanding of our district's history and culture." He added, "We will continue to actively support the operation of the exhibition hall and its educational programs."
Siheung Haenggung, meanwhile, was a palace with 114 rooms used by King Jeongjo in 1795 (the Eulmyo year) to celebrate the 60th birthday of his mother, Lady Hyegyeong Hong, and to visit the tomb of his father, Crown Prince Sado. The palace was destroyed during the reign of King Cheoljong, and today, only the presumed site remains in Siheung-dong, Geumcheon-gu.
Since 2016, the district has also collaborated every October with the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Suwon City, and Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province to hold the "King Jeongjo Royal Tomb Procession Joint Reenactment Event," reaffirming the historical significance of Siheung Haenggung and the achievements of King Jeongjo.
