Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 23rd that it will significantly expand the '2024 Yangcheon-gu Scholarship Program,' selecting a total of 120 recipients this year and awarding scholarships totaling 100 million KRW.
The number of recipients has increased by 40 compared to the previous year, and the total scholarship amount has risen by 47% to reach 100 million KRW. The recruitment fields include three categories: General Scholarship Students (high school and university students), Academic Excellence Scholarship Students (high school students), and Special Talent Scholarship Students (elementary, middle, and high school students). Applicants must have resided in the district for more than one year as of August 5 and meet the eligibility criteria for each scholarship category.
The eligibility criteria for each scholarship are as follows: ▲General Scholarship Students (household income within 100% of the median income; for university students, within the 5th income bracket of the Korea Student Aid Foundation) ▲Academic Excellence Scholarship Students (average subject rank grade of 2.75 or better in the first semester) ▲Special Talent Scholarship Students (winners placing within the top 3 in arts, sports, or science fields at competitions held at the metropolitan city or provincial level or higher).
Selected scholarship students will receive scholarships of ▲300,000 KRW for elementary and middle school students ▲600,000 KRW for high school students ▲500,000 to 1,800,000 KRW for university students. This year, the maximum scholarship amount for university students has been increased from 1,700,000 KRW to 1,800,000 KRW, and the plan is to continue expanding both the amount and the number of recipients annually.
The application period is from August 26 to September 13. Applications should be submitted to the local community service center of the applicant’s residence (for General Scholarship Students) or to the school currently attended (for Academic Excellence and Special Talent Scholarship Students). Scholarship recipients will be decided in October after review by the Scholarship Fund Management Committee.
Mayor Lee Gi-jae stated, “I hope the district’s scholarship program will provide students with opportunities to learn and serve as a strong stepping stone to realize their dreams,” adding, “We will operate a solid scholarship program to continuously discover local talents who will lead the future of Yangcheon.”
