Ipapnamu, King Cherry Tree Road, and Pine Trees Blend Together
Selected as 'Outstanding Managed Tree-lined Road of the Year' by the Korea Forest Service
Yeongju City, North Gyeongsang Province (Mayor Park Namseo), announced on the 21st that Seowon-ro (from Namsan Hyundai Apartment to Isan Crossing) has been selected as an 'Excellent Managed Tree-Lined Street of 2024' by the Korea Forest Service.
The selection of excellent managed tree-lined streets, implemented for the first time this year, was promoted to discover outstanding cases of tree-lined street creation and management by local governments.
Among the excellent managed tree-lined streets, six locations, including Seowon-ro in Yeongju City, were selected for providing beautiful scenery through proper pruning and for being well-managed and healthy, including pest and disease control.
The Seowon-ro tree-lined street stretches approximately 3 kilometers, with two rows of Ippap trees and King Cherry trees, and clusters of pine trees planted in the central median.
The city strives to create a healthy and pleasant street landscape every year through pest and disease control and pruning. In particular, pruning is limited to only the minimum necessary areas, such as dead branches, pedestrian obstacles, and traffic obstacles, to maintain the natural shape of the trees, allowing for beautiful cherry and Ippap blossoms in spring.
In addition, the city plans to complete a mid- to long-term management plan for tree-lined streets by the end of this year to enhance efficient management measures for each tree species.
Park Sangcheol, head of the Park Management Division, said, "Through the selection of this excellent managed tree-lined street, we have been able to showcase the excellence of our city's tree-lined streets nationwide," adding, "We will thoroughly complete the ongoing mid- to long-term management plan for tree-lined streets to create a healthy and pleasant street landscape."
