Park Dan, Representative of Residents, Appears Before Police: "I Never Encouraged Collective Resignation"

Park Dan, emergency committee chairman of the Korean Intern Resident Association (Daejeon Association), appeared before the police on the 21st as a witness.

On the morning of the same day, the Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency summoned Chairman Park to the Metropolitan Investigation Unit building in Mapo-gu, Seoul, for questioning.

It is understood that the investigation of Chairman Park on this day was aimed at proving the allegations that current and former executives of the Korean Medical Association (KMA) incited the collective resignation of residents.

Upon appearing before the police, Chairman Park said, "I do not think the KMA ordered it," and added, "I believe it was the individual choice of each resident doctor."

He also stated, "It has already been half a year since I left the hospital, so I do not understand why I have to undergo police questioning now," and added, "In South Korea, fairness and common sense seem to have disappeared at some point, leaving only dictatorship and oppression. As a citizen, I will continue to face this confidently to protect the value of freedom."

The police are investigating current and former KMA executives on charges including violation of the Medical Service Act, obstruction of business under the Criminal Act, and incitement and aiding.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health and Welfare filed complaints with the police in February against KMA President Lim Hyun-taek, former emergency committee chairman Kim Taek-woo, and publicity committee chairman Joo Soo-ho.
