Introduction of 7-Day Delivery System... Parcel Couriers Work 5 Days a Week
CJ Logistics announced on the 20th that it will introduce a 7-day-a-week delivery system starting next year. Parcel delivery workers will adopt a 5-day workweek without any income reduction. CJ Logistics, along with its agencies, parcel delivery workers, and labor unions, voluntarily cooperated as stakeholders in the parcel delivery industry.
CJ Logistics named the 7-day delivery service "Maeil O-ne (O-NE)." Specific details will be disclosed in October after consultations with stakeholders. The company explained, "Consumers will have a wider range of e-commerce options, triggering healthy competition, which will lead to overall industry development and increased consumer benefits."
Earlier, CJ Logistics and the Agency Federation held a "Joint Declaration for Parcel Delivery Service Innovation" at the headquarters and agreed to actively cooperate in introducing the new service. They plan to create specific operational plans considering the characteristics and operating environments of agencies by region.
On the same day, the Agency Federation and the Parcel Delivery Labor Union signed a coexistence agreement at the Agency Federation office. In the spirit of social consensus, they agreed to recognize each other as partners for mutual growth and to work together.
A company official said, "As competition in the e-commerce and parcel delivery industries intensifies and the market environment rapidly changes, the field agencies, parcel delivery workers, and labor unions share the recognition that service innovation is necessary to overcome the crisis and achieve mutual growth."
The company expects that if holiday delivery, which was previously only possible on some platforms, becomes widespread, it could serve as a new breakthrough for e-commerce, which has been struggling with recent growth slowdowns. This is because 7-day sales and delivery will be possible even without building an independent logistics system. Fresh food delivery, which was restricted on Sundays or holidays, will now be possible under the new service.

The working pattern for parcel delivery workers will gradually shift to a 5-day workweek guaranteeing two days off. This will expand actual rest days while complying with the social agreement guideline of 60 working hours per week. Furthermore, the company plans to establish a flexible operating system while guaranteeing existing delivery zones, ultimately aiming to stabilize the 5-day workweek without income reduction.
The company explained that it can introduce the 7-day service thanks to its logistics infrastructure and advanced technological capabilities. It operates Asia's largest Gonjiam Mega Hub, along with 14 hub terminals and 276 service terminals. It was the first in the industry to introduce automated sorting equipment and sorting facilities specialized for small parcels. The self-developed parcel delivery system can process over 20 million data entries per day. They also plan to apply a method that predicts volume by delivery zone using artificial intelligence and big data technologies.
Yoon Jin, CEO of CJ Logistics Korea Business Division, said, "We expect this parcel delivery service innovation, through 7-day delivery and a 5-day workweek, to be an opportunity for a 'win-win' for both consumers and parcel delivery industry workers."
