Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that the operation of the ‘2024 Kkuljaem Waterpark,’ which ran for the past month, has successfully concluded.
Nowon Waterpark, a representative summer project of Nowon-gu, is a place where residents can safely enjoy water play even during the heatwave. It was created on a 9,000㎡ scale at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology sports field.
Various facilities were provided to accommodate a wide range of users from children to adults, including three outdoor swimming pools, a lazy river, two air slides, and ten handle boats, attracting many families throughout the opening period.
In particular, the 100-meter-long water slide, which was very popular last year, was extended by 20 meters this year, offering an even more thrilling experience.
This year’s waterpark operation received positive evaluations by placing even greater emphasis on safety management compared to last year. Twenty safety personnel were stationed at all times to thoroughly manage visitor safety, strictly controlling usage according to the depth of each pool. Water quality management and facility inspections were conducted daily, and water quality status was posted, ensuring thorough attention to safety and cleanliness.
As a result, according to a district official, many visitors were welcomed during the one-month operation period without any major accidents.
Also, following last year, an invitation event was held on one of the waterpark’s closed days exclusively for persons with disabilities and their families.
About 500 people attended this day, and a disabled participant, Mr. A, said, “Although I have a severe disability and it is difficult for me to enter the water, the fact that people with and without disabilities can come together is very meaningful and joyful,” enjoying the event.
The ‘2024 Kkuljaem Waterpark’ recorded a total of about 78,000 visitors, including approximately 14,000 residents from outside Nowon-gu. Especially on weekends and holidays, the daily average reached about 4,300 visitors, with a continuous flow of guests.
Meanwhile, another type of water play area, the ‘Facility-type Park Water Playgrounds’ with water play facilities installed in parks, will operate until the 25th. There are six locations in total: ▲ Danggogae District Park (Sanggye 3,4-dong) ▲ Neutiul Park (Sanggye 6,7-dong) ▲ Deulgukhwa Children’s Park (Junggye 2,3-dong) ▲ Hannae Park (Wolgye 3-dong) ▲ Gongneung-dong Park (Gongneung 2-dong) ▲ Biseokgol Park (Wolgye 2-dong). As of the 18th, about 38,000 people have visited.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Just as we extended the water slide by 20 meters this year, we will continue to strive to make the waterpark even more enjoyable by reflecting residents’ feedback every year,” adding, “We will also prepare various programs so that residents can enjoy culture and relaxation throughout all four seasons.”
