Man in 60s Caught Stealing Gold Ring After Spraying... Police Request Arrest Warrant

Arrested While Watching Horse Racing on the 6th Floor of Korea Racing Authority Gwangju Branch

A man in his 60s who sprayed spray pain relief on a jewelry store owner and stole gold rings worth about 5 million won is facing detention.


On the 19th, the Gangdong Police Station in Seoul announced that they applied for an arrest warrant on the 17th for Mr. A, a man in his 60s, who was caught on suspicion of robbery.

According to the police, Mr. A is accused of attacking the owner at a jewelry store in Cheonho-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, around 9:45 a.m. on the 14th, and stealing three gold rings worth about 5 million won (two 5-don rings and one 2-don ring) before fleeing.


Mr. A pretended to be a customer wanting to buy gold rings, and when the owner tried to take out the jewelry from the safe, he sprayed spray pain relief on the owner’s face, then stole the gold rings that had fallen to the floor and ran away.


The police tracked Mr. A based on CCTV footage and arrested him at 1:45 p.m. on the 17th on the 6th floor of the Korea Racing Authority Gwangju Branch located in Dong-gu, Gwangju, where he was watching horse racing.


The police applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A, and the pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing) will be held at 2:30 p.m. on the 19th at the Seoul Eastern District Court.
