The 9th Women's Theater Festival Opens on the 21st

The 9th Women's Theater Festival will open on the 21st. Starting with the opening ceremony held at Minsong Art Hall in Daehangno, Seoul, a variety of events including performances and exhibitions will be presented until the 15th of next month.


This year's Women's Theater Festival features four performances divided into Planning Exhibition, Generational Empathy Exhibition, Director Exhibition, and Writer Exhibition. In the Planning Exhibition, the theater company Minye will perform "Song of the Mother" (written by Park Kyung-hee, directed by Kim Seong-hwan), which sings about the lives of women from our mothers' generation. Theater company Ouroboros will perform "Persistence of Memory" (written and directed by Kim Young-mi) in the Generational Empathy Exhibition, which talks about harmony between generations. Theater company Jigeum Yeogineun will perform "Beyond Time" (adapted by Ryu Shin, directed by Cha Hee), based on the original work by Jose Rivera, and theater company Sogeumchanggo will perform "A Special Visitor" (written by Kim Soo-mi, directed by Lee Ja-soon).

In addition to performances, the "2013?2022 Women's Theater Festival Highlights Exhibition" and a "Citizen Monologue Contest," where the audience can become the main characters and participate in the festival, will be held. The Citizen Monologue Contest is open to anyone passionate about theater and dreaming of the stage, regardless of age or gender, and monologue performances will be judged at Minsong Art Hall in Daehangno. Winners of the Grand Prize, Gold Prize, Silver Prize, Bronze Prize, and Popularity Award will receive prize money and certificates. The Korean Women’s Theater Association is recruiting participants for the Citizen Monologue Contest via email until the 30th.


The Women's Theater Festival began in 2013 and is hosted by the Korean Women’s Theater Association, which is celebrating its 31st anniversary this year.


Kang Seon-sook, president of the Korean Women’s Theater Association, stated, "The Women's Theater Festival will be a place of harmony that plants seeds of understanding and love in a society rife with conflict and hatred, fostering influence. We will continue to do our best and devote ourselves to the dreams and growth of many women theater artists."
