Pressure since teenage years... Diet restrictions and excessive exercise
"In the end, I had to give up everything and gain 8kg"
A woman in her 30s addicted to exercise has been reported to suffer from various side effects.
On the 14th (local time), the British daily The Mirror covered the story of a woman named Kristy Ierbasi (33).
Ierbasi felt pressure to lose weight since her teenage years and lost weight through dietary restrictions and excessive exercise. She said, "In high school, I started with one physical education class a day, then two, and later I began walking on the treadmill before and after classes."
After a few years, her addiction worsened when she started CrossFit. Ierbasi confessed, "I couldn't get through the day without exercising for more than two hours," and "I was afraid that if I rested from exercise for more than three days, my stamina would decline and I would gain weight again."
She even participated in a half marathon with a torn meniscus and challenged a 21 km obstacle course a week later despite severe knee pain. Moreover, she lacked understanding of nutrition.
However, soon the aftereffects of excessive exercise and nutritional deficiency began to appear. At some point, her menstruation stopped, and due to estrogen deficiency, her bones weakened.
Ierbasi said, "I almost became infertile due to excessive exercise and nutritional deficiency," and "By gaining weight again, reducing exercise, and eliminating mental stress factors, I was able to resume menstruation."
At that time, Ierbasi was a powerlifting athlete holding 10 world records and had won the world championship, but she eventually gave up everything and had to gain 8 kg. She also took light walks every day.
She advised, "Recovering from amenorrhea was one of the hardest things I have experienced," and "Women need to be aware of menstrual irregularities and the side effects of excessive exercise."
