Discussion on Cooperative Response for Electric Vehicle Fire Prevention with Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District

On the 16th at 4:30 PM, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, announced that he discussed cooperative response measures for electric vehicle fires between Nowon-gu Office and Nowon Fire Station in the mayor's office of Nowon-gu, Seoul.


This was to address the increasing concerns among residents due to recent electric vehicle fires and to establish measures to prevent similar incidents in the area and enable prompt response in case of electric vehicle fires.


The meeting included Mayor Oh, the head of Nowon-gu Carbon Promotion Team, the director of the Safety, Transportation and Construction Bureau, relevant officials, the chief of Nowon Fire Station, and the head of Nowon Fire Station’s Response Coordination Team. They reviewed the current status and response plans for safety management, including electric vehicle fires, and discussed future countermeasures.


Currently, there are a total of 287 electric vehicle charging facilities installed in Nowon-gu. Through consultation with Nowon Fire Station, Nowon-gu plans to ▲promote changes in the locations of charging stations and electric vehicle parking spots to prevent the spread of electric vehicle fires ▲consider providing suffocation fire extinguishing covers for initial firefighting response and ensure their safe use ▲conduct training for managers and related personnel, focusing all efforts on preventing and responding to electric vehicle fires.


Additionally, the district plans to hold meetings with representatives of apartment complexes to encourage active participation from residents in preventing electric vehicle fires not only in public parking lots but also in private apartment complexes.


Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, “Through this consultation, we will review overall electric vehicle safety management and devise practical methods to help ensure residents’ safety. We will continue to devote all efforts to proactive prevention and response to electric vehicle fires to fully secure the safety of our residents.”
